May 2012 Chapter Meeting:
Our next ISSA Central Alabama Chapter Meeting will be Thursday, May 3rd at Sungard so please make plans to attend. We will have fellow ISSA Chapter member, Dr. Joe Popinski, as our speaker so be sure to attend. As always, if you know any security-minded colleagues/friends who are not part of our ISSA Chapter yet, invite them to come as your guest. We will be providing a light lunch for attendees, so please RSVP back to brian@centralalabama.issa.org by this Wednesday for yourself and any guests so we can get the order right.
Presentation: Passwords: Brief history of passwords, cracking times, etc.; Need for longer and more complex passwords as necessitated by technology advances (why they have to be longer); Tips and techniques to generate longer and more complex passwords (based on research over the past 5+years); How to remember long password and how to make it easy for end users; some password war stories from many years as a consultant and Pen Test Team manager.
Speaker: Dr. Joe Popinski is a veteran of the information security field and is currently serving as IT Security Consultant (Acting AVP-IT) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham

Time: 11am-1pm (first 30 minutes usually meet/greet)
Location: Sungard – 104 Inverness Center Place Birmingham, AL 35242
Directions: Heading E on 280, turn right at the main Inverness Entrance: Come to first stoplight and turn left. Take first right into the building.
Heading W on 280: follow the above except turn left at the main enrance. Alternatively, turn left at the Superior grill stop light. Come past Regions to the first road and turn right. Take the first left into the building.
Room: The meeting room is behind the first secure door on the right and then the last door on the right (check with receptionist if any questions)
Upcoming Meeting Information:
June 7th - The ISSA North Alabama Chapter is having their 4th annual Cybersecurity Summit that day, so we will not have our regular Chapter meeting as planned. Instead,
we encourage our ISSA Central Alabama Chapter members to register and attend the summit. We will try to do some carpooling, if possible, so email Brian at
brian@centralalabama.issa.org if interested.
